Original book cover and internal illustrations adapting 2 short stories from the Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories introduced by Haruki Murakami and translated by Jay Rubin. Submitted in response to the “Interpretation of Text” unit at AUB.

The chosen short stories are:
“Hell Screen” by Akutagawa Ryunosuke.

“Filling up with Sugar” by Yuten Sawanishi.

Each story is accompanied by 2 full illustrations. Both texts are categorised by Jay Rubin whom places them under “dread” yet their definitions of the word differ greatly from the difference in era to the themes.
